Introduction To Documentary Filmmaking

Introduction To Documentary Filmmaking

This curriculum was assembled by a team of filmmakers with many years of experience and if followed in sequence will improve your films dramatically.  It has six chapters:

Introduction
Development
Pre-Production
Post Production
Distribution

It is designed to take the user on a filmmaking journey that will culminate in the actual production and distribution of a film.

There are several different elements imbedded in the curriculum that will guide you along the way. Let’s go through each one in detail so you will better understand what to do when you find them in the curriculum.

PROFESSIONAL INTERVIEWS
The professional interviews are interspersed throughout the curriculum to effectively place professional filmmakers and their experience just a click away.

ROAD MAP BLOCKS

ROAD MAP
WHAT IS A ROAD MAP BLOCK?

Over the years we have had many instructors confide in us that they don’t feel confident enough to teach filmmaking. To make this an easier experience with a higher rate of success, we have created the user Road Map. This feature gives the user tips that will help improve the learning experience and keep them on track.

ASSIGNMENT BLOCKS

ASSIGNMENT
WHAT IS AN ASSIGNMENT BLOCK?

Throughout the curriculum there are assignment blocks which are intended to put the students in motion doing what real filmmakers do for every project they approach. They are easy to spot by their dark blue box.  They prepare the user for experiences they will soon be having on their own projects. In some cases they also push their films forward through the process. Very often they are accompanied by a downloadable document or template that can be used during the exercise.

If used correctly the Sneak On The Lot filmmaking curriculum will give teachers and students that taste of success that comes when they are finally sitting in a darkened theater with an audience who is watching their films.

What are we waiting for? Let’s get started making movies!
