    Disclaimer: Many people become preoccupied with what camera they should be using to shoot their films. The truth is that any camera you can get your hands on will do the job. Nowadays the image quality from point and shoot cameras and smart phones will be sufficient for your first films (maybe even all your films). The important thing will be learning how to tell a story effectively and lighting appropriately. As you begin to experiment with certain creative choices like depth-of-field, you may want to upgrade to an interchangeable lens system like a DSLR camera. Regardless of the camera you are shooting on, learn the basic techniques of filmmaking and storytelling. Those skills will make a lot more difference in the quality of your film than the type of camera you are using.
